Individual and Group Psychotherapy

Students at therapeutic boarding school meet with their therapist every week for individual and group psychotherapy. Also known as "talk" therapy or counseling, this form of therapy gives teens an opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings in a safe, therapeutic environment and come up with more effective ways to address life’s challenges.

Because adolescents are heavily influenced by the opinions and experiences of their peers, group therapy has proven particularly effective in treating troubled teens. Most therapeutic boarding schools offer both co-ed and gender-specific groups addressing a wide range of topics including adoption issues, substance abuse, grief and loss, anger management, self-esteem, problem-solving, relationships, and communication.
