According to law enforcement officials, an herbal incense is gaining popularity with teens as a drug that can be smoked to get intoxicated, reports the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune.
The herbal incense, K2, is becoming popular with kids between the ages of 15 and 17 as an alternative to alcohol or marijuana. Experts say that people who smoked the concoction experienced a blood-alcohol level of 0.04. However, they acted like they had a much higher level of intoxication.
Furthermore, those who smoked the incense reported a racing heartbeat and chest discomfort, as well as blackout episodes. Currently, schools in the Grand Rapids area are banning the possession of the K2 herbal incense as if it were alcohol or marijuana.
Teen boarding schools have been shown to help youths who make unhealthy life choices by giving them the support to achieve success socially and behaviorally.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services between 21 and 25 percent of teens have been offered, have sold or have given an illegal drug by someone on school property.
