Researchers close to finding the gene that causes bipolar disorder

Researchers from the University of California at San Francisco may be coming closer to identifying the gene that causes bipolarity in children, reports the Los Angeles Times. The study, experts say, might find the triggers that can cause the symptoms of the condition to flare up.

Participants in the study reported symptoms that included violent mood swings, depression and frequent panic attacks.

Furthermore, the research showed that children can inherit the condition from their parents. However, experts suggest that kids who are predisposed to bipolar disorder will live easier lives than their parents because the condition might be detected at an earlier age.

New research from the University of Illinois reveals that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning might diagnose individuals who suffer from bipolar disorder at an earlier age, the news source reports.

However, teens who suffer from bipolar disorder can enroll in boarding schools, which can help with the symptoms of the condition by offering individualized treatment, and education designed to reach new levels of behavioral success.

Approximately 5.7 million people suffer from bipolar disorder, according to a study by the National Institute of Mental Health.
