Program educates teens on the dangers of drug use

According to the 2009 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, approximately 42 percent of students between grades 9 and 12 have consumed alcohol at least once during their lifetime. Statistics such as these have prompted many schools to begin underage drinking prevention programs in an effort to curb the behavior in teens.

For example, a forum was recently announced for Auburn, California teens that will help educate students and their parents about the dangers of underage drinking, Roseville Press Tribune reports.

Many experts say that parent involvement may be a crucial tool adults can use to curb the use of alcohol among problem teens.

"I do not really think it is a [peer] pressure,” Jalen Lewis, 15, an ambassador for the Placer County Youth Commission, told the news source. "I think it is more of an activity. I think it is more of a social thing."

Boarding schools can help problem teens who engage in underage drinking. These learning institutions can help adolescents learn ways to stop using alcohol and lead healthier, productive lives.
