Officers in New Mexico enforcing underage drinking much stricter

Law enforcement officials from Deming, New Mexico are stepping up their efforts in fighting underage drinking, reports NECN.
Officers in the area told the news source that the city has always had issues with teen drinking. Furthermore, they added that they conduct projects with schools and have roundtable discussions with the mayor to help curb underage alcohol abuse.
However, the police chief added that the to begin consuming alcohol comes down to individual choices. Most arrests for underage drinking in the area are made during the summer months, but officers told the news source that they are seeing more during the winter months than in past years.
Law enforcement officials warned parents and other adults that supplying minors with alcohol is a felony and that they are beginning to step up their enforcement of this law.
Teen boarding schools can help children who exhibit risky behaviors such as consuming alcohol by offering education to help them make better life choices.
According the 2008 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, approximately 28 percent of individuals between ages 12 and 20 reported consuming alcohol.
