Oakland police seize nearly $2 million worth of marijuana

Many studies have shown that marijuana is the most common drug abused among Americans. The prevalence, relative low cost and recent legislation in several states approving the use of the medical variety have each contributed to the continued use of the substance.
Oakland, California law enforcement officials recently announced that they seized an estimated $2 million in marijuana during a drug bust, The Mercury News reports.
Officials told the news source that they found a sophisticated indoor marijuana-growing operation of 2,300 plants with an estimated street value of $2 million. They added that this is one of the largest drug busts in the area in recent time.
All the rooms of the house where the seizure took place were equipped with hydroponics lighting, ventilation and a watering system to help with the growth and harvesting. The marijuana was packed into 16 large garbage bags and transported to the police headquarters where it will be destroyed.
Parents who suspect their child is using illegal drugs, such as marijuana, may want to enroll them in treatment for troubled teens. This program uses a combination of individual and recreational therapy to help them overcome their addiction.
According to a 2009 study conducted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, nearly 42 percent of high school students used marijuana at least once in their lifetime.
