Mothers who use cell phones during and after pregnancy can be more at risk of having children with behavioral problems

A study recently published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health reveals that mothers who use cell phones frequently are more likely to have kids with behavioral problems. Furthermore, children who use mobile phones at an earlier age have an increased risk of developing abnormal demeanor.

Nearly 100,000 pregnant women between 1996 and 2002 took part in the study, which tracked their children’s long-term health. Each mother traced lifestyle, dietary and environmental factors. Researchers found that children who were exposed to mobile phones before and after birth were 50 percent more likely to develop behavioral problems.

Furthermore, children who were exposed to cellular devices before birth were 40 percent more likely to have behavior problems. Children who were not introduced to cell phones by the age of 7 were only 20 percent more likely to exhibit behavioral issues.

Researchers suggest it is too early to interpret these results as a cause of abnormal behavior. However, early exposure to mobile phones could be a public health concern considering how often this technology is used.

Recreational activities and education, like those found in boarding schools, can help children form healthy behaviors and achieve social success.
