Kansas City police set up checkpoints to find individuals smoking marijuana

The date April 20th, or 4/20, has the distinction of being a holiday for individuals to smoke marijuana. Some individuals, even those who do not normal use the substance, may attempt to use it for the first time.

Kansas City, Missouri law enforcement recently announced that it will be setting up checkpoints around the city to catch those who are under the influence while driving, news station KMBC reports.

"It is in all kinds of rap, hip hop and rock songs your kids may be listening to," Daniel Graves, sergeant with the Kansas City police department. "We are finding that many parents do not realize this code."

Individuals who find adolescents using the substance may wish to offer ways for these troubled teens to seek treatment, such as recreational programs that offer individual therapy aimed at combating drug use.

According to the 2009 National Drug Use and Health survey, nearly 17 million individuals age 12 and older used marijuana in the month prior to the study.
