Facebook creates a safety center for parents to combat bullying

The internet allows many people to connect with friends and family. It also allows companies to bring their services online to. consumers Social media are popular because ithey combine these two facets of the World Wide Web. However, now individuals are using websites such as Facebook and Twitter to attack their peers.

To combat this, Facebook recently announced a new service that will allow parents to monitor and control what their child sees while using the website, CBS New York reports.

This service does not just end with parents, other users can report bullying or abusive content and other safety issues. The report will be sent to Facebook, the person who posted the material and to a trusted adult who might be able to address the issue offline.

Parents who suspect their child of being attacked online, may wish to enroll them in summer camps for troubled teens. These camps are designed to provide recreational activities that help individuals meet people face-to-face.

The Cyberbullying Research Center reports that nearly 21 percent of children fell victim to online harassment in 2010.
