Many counties are beginning to institute a new law that punishes adults who allow underage drinking to occur on their property. Law enforcement agencies across the nation are cracking down on parents who allow this behavior.
For instance, a Glens Fall, New York woman was recently charged with two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child, the Post Star reports.
Glens Falls law enforcement officers told the news source that the woman discovered that her teenage daughter was having an underage drinking party, the mother then left the home. However, one teen was found passed out from intoxication on a bed within the house.
She is accused of knowingly allowing an underage drinking party, failing to stop it and not getting help for the teen who was unconscious in her home. Programs for troubled teens can help adolescents who exhibit risky behaviors such as consuming alcohol by providing drug prevention education.
According to the the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, individuals age 12 to 20 drink nearly 11 percent of all alcohol consumed in the U.S.
